TalkLeft: the Politics of Crime is a web blog  located at http://talkleft.com and http://premium.talkleft.com (the Sites).   It is operated by Jeralyn Merritt in Denver, Colorado. This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use and disclosure of Personal Information we receive from users of the Sites.

Information Collection And Use

While using our Sites, you have the choice either to read anonymously as a “lurker” or register as a site user. Registration is free. In order to comment on either site, you must first register as a user and be “logged in.”

The only personal information we collect from registered users is your email address, so we can send you a registration confirmation. You do not have to provide your real name, your physical address, or any other identifying information when registering. Everything on TalkLeft is free, so there is no financial information collected.

If you  want to read the content on the Sites without registering, you may do so, in which case we obtain no personal information about you. (For information about browser and IP address information we may collect, see below.)

We use your Personal Information only for providing and improving the Site. By using the Site, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

Information Sharing

TalkLeft does not share user email addresses with anyone. If served with legal process to identify a user’s screen name or email address associated with a particular IP address, we would evaluate the request and any known circumstances concerning it and determine on a case by case basis whether to  comply. However, as no such request has been made in TalkLeft’s 16 years of existence, we cannot predict how we would respond. You should assume we would comply.

Log Data

Like many websites, we collect information that your browser sends whenever you visit our Site (“Log Data”).

This Log Data may include information such as your computer’s Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, browser type, browser version, the pages of our Site that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages and other statistics.

In addition, we may use third party services such as Google Analytics and StatCounter that collect, monitor and analyze this information. You should visit those sites and review their privacy notices.

Communications

TalkLeft does not send out promotional materials, newsletters or other types of communications.  There are no advertisements or affiliate links on either site.

We may use your email address to respond to requests to change your password or other site-related e-mails you send us,  to thank you for a donation you made to us, or to notify you of a complaint we have received regarding comments you have posted that do  not comply with our comment policy.  In addition, Premium.talkleft.com, which is still under construction and a WordPress site, offers you the option to receive an e-mail notification of new comments to any particular post.

Everything at TalkLeft is free. Thus no financial information about you is collected or shared.

Donations are accepted (and appreciated) and there is a link to PayPal on our sites for that purpose. The Paypal link accepts donations using either your credit card or Paypal Account. We are not privy to the financial information you provide Paypal. It is not stored on TalkLeft.  Paypal merely sends us a notification by email that a donation  from the email address you used with Paypal to make the donation has been received.  Please check Paypal’s privacy policies if you use Paypal to send us a donation.

Cookies

Cookies are files with small amount of data, which may include an anonymous unique identifier. Cookies are sent to your browser from a web site and stored on your computer’s hard drive.

Like many sites, we may use “cookies” to collect certain information. You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, if you do not accept cookies, you may not be able to use some portions of our Sites, such as the comments section.

If you leave a comment on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Security

The security of your Personal Information is important to us, but remember that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your Personal Information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Changes To This Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy is effective as of 7/30/18 and will remain in effect except with respect to any changes in its provisions in the future, which will be in effect immediately after being posted on this page.

We reserve the right to update or change our Privacy Policy at any time and you should check this Privacy Policy periodically. Your continued use of the Service after we post any modifications to the Privacy Policy on this page will constitute your acknowledgment of the modifications and your consent to abide and be bound by the modified Privacy Policy.
