Have to disagree. I like expressing support with up-rating. Saves me from leaving a comment that just says “well said”. The numbering thing I don’t care about at all and I’d be satisfied with up and down arrows like a lot of disqus sites.
And I really, really want to be able to quickly identify new comments. The “Unread Comments” links point to a single comment in a given thread. Doesn’t help much when the conversation is lively.
